FAQs

For how long do people use a night nanny?

In general, families keep their caregivers for about 12 weeks. In a full term baby, this is when they're big enough to sleep longer stretches overnight.

Many families choose to start with 5-7 nights a week and then drop down to 3 and then eventually 2 nights per week.

Circumstances differ depending on:

  • how much outside help you have

  • if and when you're going back to work

  • if there are older kids in the home

  • budget

You also don't have to start right when your newborn arrives. Many families will contact us to begin night nanny care at 6 weeks, when the "sleepy newborn" stage is over!

This is a great idea. How do I open an LMS franchise?

The best way to ensure families receive qualified postpartum support is to bring the same high standards of practice to everyone in the US.

If you'd like to join us in this work, visit our dedicated franchise website, LetMommySleepFranchise.com.

Do you offer Financing?

Yes. There are pay over time options for 6-36 months via our partner, Affirm.

The ultimate goal of Let Mommy Sleep is to revolutionize postpartum care in America, making it a national norm and aggregating a currently unregulated industry.  Our nursing team are Licensed by their State's Board of Nursing and our Night Doula team are certified.

Sleep is a human need so we serve all humans.

What happens while the night nanny is here?

Our Night Nurses and Newborn Care Providers (NCP) give non-judgmental, evidence-based postpartum support to families between 9pm and 7am.

For newborns, infants and twins this means: diapering, feeding, burping, soothing, swaddling, changing etc. and helping them sleep through the night (if that's what you want!)

Parents can expect breast and bottle feeding support, safe sleep education, help with swaddling and other care, documentation through the night and clean, sanitized baby items in the morning.

If you're exclusively breastfeeding, we bring baby to you to nurse and then do all of the soothing, diaper changes and whatever else your baby needs.

What do I need to provide for the night nanny or baby nurse?

Families need to only provide whatever their baby needs. This usually means:

  1. Crib or bassinette with a firm, flat mattress

  2. formula and/or breastmilk

  3. bottles, breast pump if needed

  4. a nasal aspirator

  5. diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes and linens for your baby

Night Nurses and Newborn Care Providers also need a small lamp, a comfortable area to monitor baby, and access to the kitchen…LOTS of handwashing and bottle/pump washing happens overnight!

I am having twins! HELP!!!

We LOVE working with twins and higher order multiples! Here's how we can help:

  • get the twins on the same schedule

  • we do all feeding, diapering and soothing but if you'd like breastfeeding or bottle-feeding support we'll be right by your side (literally!)

  • help the twins sleep through the night

  • we made you a twins baby registry

  • you can take our online twins class for free- contact us for a promo code.

What services do you offer besides overnight newborn care?

  • Postpartum Check-Ups – a Registered Nurse provides head-to-toe assessments of both parents and the infant or newborn twins. These early intervention visits help catch mental, physical, and breastfeeding problems before they become bigger issues. RNs also provide feeding, safety, and baby care instruction.

  • Baby Basics Classes – You’ll learn diapering, swaddling, infant safety, safe sleep guidelines, bathing, and all the other how-to’s of newborn and infant care. Grandparents and babysitters are welcome to attend. We also teach child-care organizations and virtual classes.

  • Gift Certificates - You can add night nurse care to your baby registry.

Will you sleep train my baby?

Yes. Our night doulas are experts at helping age-appropriate babies sleep through the night. We do this by being responsive to their needs and making gentle adjustments to fit their needs.

We don't do formal sleep training sessions because in our opinion, that sets the expectation that being "sleep trained" is some kind of switch we can turn on and off. We've found that taking a gradual approach is much more effective than 2-3 nights of standing in the hallway while the baby cries.

But that doesn't mean the education isn't important! Read our step-by-step infant sleep plan here.

Who are the Doulas and Nurses? Are they certified?

We've been serving families across America for 15 years now and are proud to be the Industry Leaders in newborn and postpartum care.

-

Our Night Nannies and Postpartum Doulas are certified via Newborn and Postpartum Support (NAPS). NAPS is based on the government contract award winning curriculum written by Let Mommy Sleep. It is overseen by a third-party Advisory Board of clinicians and subject matter experts.

-

Background checks, a minimum of 2 interviews, vaccinations, CPR/First Aid, safe sleep certificates, years of infant care experience and sparkling newborn care references are compulsory to be considered for hire.

-

Our clinical staff are Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Certified Nursing Assistants and other healthcare providers. This is important because they, and we, are accountable to the Board of Nursing.

-

Our newborn care courses won a government contract award and have been taught in nursing schools, pediatrician offices and home health agencies. Our materials are also cited by other organizations and media.

Is postpartum doula care covered by my insurance or HSA?

It's not common but health insurance sometimes covers night doula care. The following conditions typically need to be met:

  1. Night Nurse care is directed by your doctor

  2. A licensed Nurse (RN/LPN/LVN) is hired

  3. Your insurance has confirmed to you that they cover postpartum doula care.

In cases where insurance accepts night nurse care, we'll bill you and you will communicate directly with your health insurance company for reimbursement. Read more about this.

If your company offers employee benefits such as Carrot or Maven, YES we do have Carrot approved doulas and YES we are accepted by Maven.

Night Nurse and Postpartum Doula services may or may not be covered by your HSA. Service will be covered provided that your HSA issuer is set up to accept Nursing Care or Home Health.

How am I supposed to pay for this?

We know cost is a factor for many families. That's why we continue to add payment options to make postpartum care more accessible.

Here is how we do that:

  1. Carrot/Maven - We have Carrot approved and Maven night doulas. Carrot and Maven are employer sponsored benefit programs.

  2. Financing - You can use Affirm to pay over time without interest. Checking rates doesn't affect credit score. Learn more.

  3. Gift Certificates - Send this link to everyone you know to create a night nanny fund.

  4. Add us to Your Company Benefits - Our Corporate Care Program can easily be added to your company’s Employee Benefits Package.

Newborn care services might also be HSA/FSA approved. Check with your card issuer to see if in home night doula care fits their parameters.

What do you do for the community?

Our 501c3 non-profit Mission: Sleep provides free, overnight newborn care to families whose babies arrive when a parent is deployed, wounded, or deceased.

While priority is given to military and first responders, we accommodate civilians when funds allow.

Do you offer gift certificates?

Yes! Gift certificates are available here. We suggest sharing the local link with friends and family who can contribute gift certificates to make your own Baby Registry.
