For those babies older than six-months, there are so many sunscreens on the market that choosing the best one can be overwhelming for new parents.   The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has a great guide to ranking sunscreens. Sunscreens are ranked on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the best.

An ideal sunscreen would block the majority of UVA and UVB rays with active ingredients that do not break down in the sun, so that the product remains effective. It would also contain only active and inactive ingredients that are proven to be completely safe for both adults and children. (EWG Guide to Sunscreen FAQ Page)

When using sunscreen on your older baby, it needs to be reapplied at least every two hours, more if baby is in the water. Sunscreen alone does not protect older babies from the sun.
