The Let Mommy Sleep team loves to support other mom-owned businesses; that’s why we are excited to tell you about a new line of breast pump handbags from Sarah Wells, an Alexandria, Virginia-based mom that we had the pleasure of meeting this last year while her product was in development.  We think the bags are beautiful and are excited to share more now that the company has launched.

Why We Love the Sarah Wells Breast Pump Bag

1. Style. Never again do you have to hear a co-worker or TSA agent comment about “that breast pump you have there” in the telltale black nylon bag we have all come to know (and some hate). Or simply lack options because your pump equipment didn’t come with a bag (which we hear is the case for a number of insurance-covered pumps). The Sarah Wells breast pump bag is a classic satchel-style to suit many mom tastes, in neutral colors to go with every outfit, and with classy hardware finishes.  And best of all, it’s discreet. It’s just a handbag to the outside world – and to the mom, it’s handbag and pump bag in one.

2. Function. The bags have specialized side compartments on BOTH sides of the bag to discreetly carry your breast pump and other items like bottles, shields, tubes, etc. (fits most brands and styles of pumps); the pockets flatten when they are not in use, providing even more space in the main compartment. Inside, you’ll find a padded interior tablet or e-reader pocket. It is easy to carry all your miscellaneous purse “stuff” in the deep interior zippered pocket.  The outside of the bag is man-made leather (easy to clean) and a “pop of color” durable lining (also easy to clean).

3. Flexibility. The bag has a multitude of ways it can be used to carry both pump equipment and pumped milk.  According to Sarah Wells, testing shows that either side pocket, with an ice pack, will keep bottles of refrigerated milk cold (or begin cooling recently pumped milk) for up to four hours (varied based on external temperatures).  However, if you are partial to using the milk cooler that came with your pump or another external system, the side pockets and main compartment will hold a wide range of coolers or thermal bags.  And when you’re done breastfeeding, the side pockets grow with you to hold extra diapers, wipes, sippy cups anything you don’t want to commingle with your purse items!
